Old Fashioned Thin Lard Biscuits
You read so much about what is good for you and what is not. Doctors tell you one thing and then years later you find out that thing isn't really good for you and 9 times out of 10 causes cancer so what is one to do? Shortening, margarine, & etc are said to be one step away from plastic and therefore not as good for you as animal sources now. Who knows and what is one to do?
"When a square of butter and a square of margarine were put into a baking pan, then insects (ants/flies) were added, they went to/landed on the butter. This tells you that nature chooses real food!" credit That is enough for me to sometimes use a little lard and I know I will use my butter.
I'll tell you that I've limited my use of shortening and never use margarine anymore. Animal sources are not as healthy as in the past either because grandma and grandpa raised their own animals and they were much healthier. If you know me you know exactly how I feel about animals grown in CAFOs.
We don't all have the ability to raise our own food animals now so we must buy. I still think even though saturated fats are said to be unhealthy I will use some every now and then and for these biscuits today I am using lard. Let me tell you if made gently with a light hand they will melt in your mouth!

Day Trip to Loretta's Daylily Farm
We have for years passed by this daylily farm on the way to Myrtle Beach! I kept saying one day I'm going to stop but the excitement of getting to the beach always won out! this would be a special trip just to the farm that is what we would do. It took Chuck saying, "Dolly, I want to take you there". It has to be true love he knows how I like to shop once you get me out of the house. Did he forget? Oh boy, let's go!

Roses Survive
The white rose garden stood in water for quite a while with South Carolina's record flood.
Although not in their best ever blooming they still bloomed their little heart out.
Today's post will be in pictures only

MaryJane's Organic Cotton Sheet Set
Today I'm talking MaryJane's sheets. I purchased these sheets and they had sat in the linen closet for awhile. It seems I'd gotten into a rut, using the same sheets over and over again. Washing and putting right back onto the bed. When I buy something that I really like I tend to keep them new for as long as I can. You know like your grandmother or mother in law who always kept a nightgown and a bed jacket new and clean in the closet. They always told me they had to keep those things clean in crisp condition because what if, Heaven forbid, they had to go to the hospital?! Did you see how I snuck that in? That is a little Southern Tradition there. I'll tell you another at end of post. Funny stuff, I got off topic, today I share these wonderful sheets in a product review. Join me won't you.

Flood Disease Damage to Trees and Shrubs
I knew when I found these several years back that I should stay away from them. I couldn't resist and for only $5 a piece.

Vegetable Sausage Quiche
This is a quiche that I've made for years with the main ingredient in the past being sausage. This version is more of a vegetable base and if you wish you can leave the sausage out altogether.

Simple Cream of Potato Soup
This is a pure potato with cream soup. I've made potato soup for years and have added bacon fat among other ingredients. Today's recipe is simple no bacon fat only potatoes, water, cream, and oh-so-delicious!
Chuck had to have some dental work so I had to come up with something good and filling for him to eat that wouldn't cause any damage to his mouth.
This virtually spur-of-the-moment soup fits the need and is surprisingly excellent. I will make it again.

Hibiscus for Hibiscus House
Today sharing the little Hibiscus for Summer. These little annual plants will brighten the front entrance for a short while. I've tried to plant the perennial versions but have had no success, so for now this is the way I'll have them here.
